In SE chat, in the title bar, you can see how many messages in chat that you have not yet read.
Also in SE chat, you get a ping whenever you are mentioned in chat.

Should this features be added to our chat? Or, would this be copying SE chat too much?

I think it would be two good features. I don't see copying SE chat as a problem.
