we can run stuff locally....but we need to automate deploying to actual server

I haven't looked into it at all, but do Linode and digital ocean work similarly?

i talked to daniel, and since he's not doing much backend stuff we thought it would make more sense to use my account on digital ocean. the endpoint will be carltour.nrjones8.com (at least for the moment!). i haven't set up a new user yet, but will soon (so we can both ssh in without using my standard login).
