Dear Sirs,

Congratulations for the Catalogue of Life platform. A very useful, important and necessary Data Base to standarize all our data about binomial names.

I used it for all invertebrates samples of our institution and find all correct in many groups. But I detefull ct that for Lepidoptera is not clear, doubtful and missing things. I see all Lepidoptera is based on LepIndex: The Global Lepidoptera Names Index. Two important points:

1- I detect that no normalization over parentheses in author's name. It's no use of parenthesis never. This is an important default. Why not? If all other groups they have.

2- It's not clear the original data vs Cat of Life. For example: Procris geryon. I search it in Cat of Life and find: https://www.catalogueoflife.org/data/taxon/4MPC6 It seems that the accepted name is Procris geryon Hübner, 1818 (no parenthesis). But I go to the link indicated in the web of Lepindex ( Link to original resource: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/data/lepindex/detail/?taxonno=83853)and see: Current comb: ADSCITA (ADSCITA) geryon Hübner, [1813] and finally, at the end: Current Valid Name: ADSCITA (ADSCITA) geryon Hübner, [1813]

What it's the valid combination? Adscita geryon Hübner, [1813] of the LEPINDEX or Procris geryon Hübner, 1818 of the Cat of Life.

It's not a rare case. Many names of the same species are different in both platforms.

Thank you for your help

Sergio

CoL needs a new export from LepIndex or alternative source for Lepidoptera.

LepIndex always had the basionym problem and missing authorship brackets. It's really bad.

Thanks - all of this is quite correct. I've been trying to get the cleanest export I can from TaxonWorks and the newer version of LepIndex there, although that in itself will fix rather little.

The idea of starting with Fauna Europaea as a building-block makes sense. More soon.
