A syntype study of Lepadogaster minimus (=Aspasma minima, Kopua minima) revealed that L minimus is the sinior synonym of Kopua japonica. As the species previously considered to be "Aspasma minima" was found to have no corresponding scientific name, so this species was newly described as Aspasma ubauo.

In view of this, @RyoKuwa proposes the following changes.
Add Kopua minima (Döderlein 1887) under the genus Kopua and treat it as accepted.
Change Kopua japonica to a junior subjective synonym of Kopua minima, and treat it as invalid.
