Chordate classification misses Linnean ranks #484

With the recent change in the higher chordate classification, especially fishes, we end up with many intermediate ranks including rare ranks like gigaclass, but without a regular class rank! I am all in favor of having a more detailed classification, but it makes no sense to me to omit the major Linnean ranks. This might be the case for unplaced families, but not for entire classes like Actinopterygii

@dhobern @yroskov @NicBailly could you please take a look at Actinopterygii and also review the other changes in Chordates?

Here is a simple, complete view of all chordates down to tribes: http://api.checklistbank.org/dataset/3/export.txt?taxonID=686214e1-d253-4ae5-8708-643c8c587788&rank=SUBPHYLUM&rank=INFRAPHYLUM&rank=PARVPHYLUM&rank=MICROPHYLUM&rank=NANOPHYLUM&rank=GIGACLASS&rank=MEGACLASS&rank=SUPERCLASS&rank=CLASS&rank=SUBCLASS&rank=INFRACLASS&rank=SUBTERCLASS&rank=PARVCLASS&rank=SUPERDIVISION&rank=DIVISION&rank=SUBDIVISION&rank=INFRADIVISION&rank=SUPERLEGION&rank=LEGION&rank=SUBLEGION&rank=INFRALEGION&rank=MEGACOHORT&rank=SUPERCOHORT&rank=COHORT&rank=SUBCOHORT&rank=INFRACOHORT&rank=GIGAORDER&rank=MAGNORDER&rank=GRANDORDER&rank=MIRORDER&rank=SUPERORDER&rank=ORDER&rank=NANORDER&rank=HYPOORDER&rank=MINORDER&rank=SUBORDER&rank=INFRAORDER&rank=PARVORDER&rank=MEGAFAMILY&rank=GRANDFAMILY&rank=SUPERFAMILY&rank=EPIFAMILY&rank=FAMILY&rank=SUBFAMILY&rank=INFRAFAMILY&rank=SUPERTRIBE&rank=TRIBE&rank=SUBTRIBE&rank=INFRATRIBE&

These problems in FishBase and ReptileDB were reported to the Taxonomy Group and Global Team.

Regarding Actinopterygii: old FishBase data cannot be transformed in proposed classification; we are still waiting for FishBase update via WoRMS, where a new classification should be implemented: https://github.com/CatalogueOfLife/testing/issues/186#issuecomment-1160843888

Regarding Reptile classification: CoL lost classic orders. They were lifted to the class level without provision for orders. Did it really make sense? https://github.com/CatalogueOfLife/testing/issues/186#issuecomment-1063331832

@dhobern, changes in the management classification should be well coordinated with actual data received from data providers. It's even more important for changes in Arthropoda.
