Unfortunately, entire superfamily Eriophyoidea is a gap in the Catalogue of Life (@dhobern, may be just a note for a gap list by Taxonomy Group)
@DaveNicolson, may be ITIS can help. How far is ITIS from the global list in superfamily Eriophyoidea?
ITIS doesn't currently have a project on any of the families of Eriophyoidea. From a quick check, there doesn't seem to have been a published global catalog of the large superfamily since the late 1990s, although a lot of work was apparently done on them since then (per Zhang, 2017). I'll check with Zhi-Qiang Zhang to see if he is aware of a catalog or checklist from this century (for the superfamily or any of the families), but I'm guessing it'd be a good bit of work to fill this gap...
@dhobern how far are we to put out a gap list on the portal for users to see? To me this would be a great leap forward as it allows in our conversations with users to point to these groups to justify the state COL is in. There is an open issue here: https://github.com/CatalogueOfLife/portal/issues/179
Describe the problem:
A GBIF user has given the following feedback https://github.com/gbif/backbone-feedback/issues/10
Claiming the the mite Aceria negundi is missing from the GBIF backbone taxonomy.
Link to effected CoL webpages: Not sure which dataset this species would fit into to...
