Enhancement: how to use the widget for datasets with unstable IDs #36

I find it difficult to use the widget since IDs are unstable for the datasets I'm interested in. E.g. I just configured a site to use catalogue 2232 The World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP) x4J Campanulaceae

That worked like a charm, but 24 hours later it shows a different taxon because the keys have changed.

If there is no such things as stable IDs (in this dataset), then perhaps a way to provide a rank and a name and then have it dynamically configure the widgets? With an appropriate fallback for cases where there is no match?

IDs are as stable as the source ids, so this all depends on the selected source. COL, ITIS, WORMS and many many more datasets have stable ids. WCVP in this case has stable species ids, but not for families unfortunately

Ahh - thank you. Either way, they are unstable in this case. Having an alternative approach for unstable datasets would be great if possible. I've updated the comment to reflect that it is only some datasets and some taxa that are unstable
