Cardano Foundation Catalyst Circle representative should be CF employee, not ambassador #73

On behalf of General ADA holder community, I would like to raise a prioritized problem that there is, at least within my sub-circle, a strong opinion that a CC representative for CF should be a CF employee, not a Cardano Ambassador...

It is one of the functions of the CC representatives to "Raise strong objections to governance processes in Catalyst", however our community members are widely believed to be below critical towards Cardano community in general, it would be easier to hold the foundation accountable for this function thru a Circle Representative that is a Cardano Foundation employee given the current process maturity in Catalyst, including on-boarding (or lack of thereof) formalized Circle member on-boarding procedure, foundation based representative can be trained on Catalyst and CC processes once, and then the required knowledge can be easily shared within the organization as the seats are replaced on CC, or CF can follow the IOG way and retain the same representative several times over.

Cardano Foundation has allowed ambassadors to be represented and I think that is a great idea. Over time as Catalyst gets traction and more decision making going to happen, I'm sure they will want to appoint someone closer to activities. As for now, I suggest the community seize the opportunity of filling that position.

You certainly are entitled to your opinion.

I would agree with this. I do not believe an ambassador can speak for CF, perhaps the CF Ambassador's Guild would have more insight but at this stage, it adds more complexity to the role/function of the circle and CF.

Hello everyone, I appreciate the opinions and concerns here. @QuasarChains, could you elaborate a bit on why you feel an Ambassador could not represent Cardano Foundation?

We (Cardano Foundation) work closely with people in the community, experts in Catalyst, to fulfill this role. Of course we have a feedback loop with the Ambassadors and we also work closely with the Ambassador Guild (which by the way is also very supportive in this endeavor).

This is an experiment, also for us.

In reply to Tommy.. saying something is an experiment doesnt necessarily mean we should do it.. Lots of experiments can result in explosive outcomes.. The reason CF Foundation should be an employee in my opinion is that we can ask that person very blunt, straightforward questions which as an employee they would be able to answer. They would also be accountable based on the roles and functions that the CF plays within the governance of the community. In my opinion it is not fair to ask this from a Cardano Ambassador since that person cannot be held accountable for actions of the CF nor can that person speak for the CF in that formal capacity, however good an Ambassador I am sure they are.

What is the reason why a CF employee cannot represent CF?

I would like a straightforward answer to this question.

Dimitri, there is absolutely no reason why a CF employee cannot represent CF on CC but we want to work with the Community, we want to work with Ambassadors. We recently released an article on this topic, which provides further insights on this approach: https://cardanofoundation.org/en/news/the-cardano-foundation-promotes-impactful-action-of-the-community/
