More information

If you want to add more information, put it here:

  1. Login fields would enable those users with a premium NPO subscription to receive all programmes, also those Geo restricted, and, most important, in HD quality.
  2. Integration with iptv manager gives no EPG until now
  3. Although replay works with Retrospect add-on, that one doesn't offer iptv manager integration,so making it work in CU is worthwhile.

Hi @Rvhalewyn, Is the account needs to have a paid account to get HD quality ? Thanks,

Rvhalewyn commented 3 years ago

A free account is possible. I had a free account first, later I paid, and so I got HD with the same login.

Not sure it will work and we are not able to test because we don't have a paid account to test and implement things. I will see to create a free account to see if it is worth to add it to access more contents. Thanks

Rvhalewyn commented 3 years ago

Thanks. It works alright with a free account. Just no HD.

wwark commented 3 years ago

If the free account access the same contents like no account no need to add it because It means more code (so more issues)

Rvhalewyn commented 3 years ago

I mean the account would be free for you for testing. But then when you're funished, every user with a paid account can login to get HD quality. It works like that in Retrospect, but that add-on does not offer IPTV Manager. That is why I prefer using CU.

I was hoping that a free account would also remove geo-blocking, but I just tested it and it turns out not to be the case.

Reasons for a free account:

Reasons for a paid account:

@Rvhalewyn would you happen to have a VPN connection available (on whatever device that allows you to login on the website/app) that allows you to simulate a foreign connection to test if a paid account happens to remove the geo-blocking? It might serve as an extra motivation to implement the account feature. A show to test it with would be "Matthijs gaat door".

A paid account allows you to see everything, geoblocked or not, without a VPN, and in HD. With a free account + VPN you get everything except prime programs, but all in SD.

I've tested both.

But a an account is made on the npo website, paid or not.

Those who login through any medium with a free account, get the free service, those with a paid account get everything, in HD. That's how it works on the Retrospect add-on, which doesn't offer IPTV Manager integration though.

A free account works for testing, as long as one doesn't select a prime program. I'll be glad to test for the prime programmes and HD once the login was implemented.

A show like "Matthijs gaat door" remains geo-blocked when I tried the free account. Is this one of the shows you call "prime"?

Rvhalewyn commented 2 years ago

If it's geoblocked, you have to use VPN with a free account. Not the same as premium. For this afternoon's programs, I see 13.45 Peter Pan, geoblocked plus premium 16.55 Spangas, geoblocked 19.05 Een huis vol, premium All other free So there are 4 types. You could test each of them. If you choose Retrospect add-on, Recent, you find that info right above the information text.

I know I can use a VPN, that wasn't the point of my question. When doing so I don't need a free NPO account either. The reason I talked about a VPN is because I assume you're located in the Netherlands, you are the one with a paid account, and I wanted to know if a paid account allows you to see shows normally geo-blocked without a VPN from a foreign country. You being in the Netherlands would require you to use a VPN to test this.

Rvhalewyn commented 2 years ago

I can reassure you. I live in Belgium, so before I had a payed account, I had to use VPN with a Dutch server to unblock the geoblocked programs. Since I have the payed account, I have been able to watch those blocked programmes without VPN.

For users watching NPO regularly, a paid account (3 EUR / month) is really worthwhile, both for the premium programmes and the HD. Not needing to use VPN with a server in Holland while living outside Holland is a secundary bonus.

Anyhow, to watch NPO on CU instead of Retrospect would be only worthwhile for me if IPTV Manager is implemented correctly, so with the possibility of watching recent programs from the EPG grid, like the Flemish ones.
