The crafting table is good for shaping softer materials, assembling components, and working somewhat efficiently with stone/wood ect...
Shaping raw metals/gemstones (hard materials) less so. (as far as practicable not at all).
Mostly because putting 2 ingots and a hammer in the crafting grid to makes plates was never fun.
--the whole 'tools in the crafting grid' just gets really annoying when done to excess
(a few recipes such as "using a screwdriver to configure circuits" is ok)
Tools can be crafted out of a tool head and stick.
(done) Vanilla style tools crafted out of Gtech tool head and stick. Shaped recipe to avoid clash with Gt ones (which are shapeless).
Gtech crafting of the meta-tools themselves to remain unchanged, however some of the tool-heads will be different.
Excessively nested recipes get very annoying after a while
Allow 3 in some cases (robot arms), but really there is no need to require more than 2 'assembly' steps to make a component.
....Glares ominously at Steves Carts and Gregtech
MM 'industrial crafting unit' can handle multiple steps in one go.
mixing dusts ect (such as alloys)
Generally inefficient- some loss of dust. (you're stirring a pile of it on a workbench)
To Do
Check recipes for vanilla style tools (from all mods)
Stand in recipe set for gemworking?
Suggestions welcome.
remove metalworking/gemworking recipes from crafting table.
ingots/storage blocks (done- except Gtech)
Gtech materials done.
Do replacement recipe set for making tool heads.
(probably tool casting with TiCon)
Do replacement crafting recipes for powered tool heads
'Tools in the crafting grid' is also cheaper than actually building the machine. It's the first thing I always disable and change in packs I work on - Good call on getting rid of it in your pack!

remove excessive tool use from crafting table, add replacement crafting recipes. machine hulls/blocks ect pipes (done) rotors (done) pumps (done) Check machine hulls/blocks
track down excessively nested recipes
add (remaining?) nested recipes to MM ICU
figure an alternative for blending alloys ect Suggestions welcome If so- adjust workbench recipes to suit. (~25% loss on dusts)
