CALL FOR MISSING DEVELOPERS! #2

Closed SecUpwN closed 9 years ago

SecUpwN commented 10 years ago

Dear followers and security enthusiasts, I opened this issue on behalf of project creator @E3V3A and my own. It looks like everyone of you is interested in having such an app for instant IMSI-Catcher warning, but sadly we currently have a serious lack of developers with knowledge on the subject and willingness to put our ideas into actual code.

SOLUTION: I encourage EVERYONE of you reading this to SPREAD THE WORD about this project to find some people with guts who actually contribute code to this GitHub. Use existing social media like Twitter, Facebook and other websites to spread awareness of security issues caused through IMSI-Catchers and point people to this project! If you have other great ideas on how to bring the attention of security enthusiasts and developers to this important project, feel free to share them here or in our official development thread on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422969

BONUS: The first 3 people bringing some coders into our project will receive a neat, self-made suprise from my funky home country. So what are you waiting for? Hit us with your ideas, spread the link to our project and most importantly: Be one of the first people dragging a developer on his hair to this GitHub!

glamrock commented 10 years ago

I'd contribute, but I don't speak Java. Happy to tweet about it though.

ei8fdb commented 10 years ago

I can help with interaction design, user research and user interface design if needed?

SecUpwN commented 10 years ago

@glamrock, no worries, I'd be happy if you spread the word via Twitter and link our GitHub. First step in development is to make people know about the purpose of this project. @bernardATdiymut, that sounds cool! Have you checked out our code yet? What exactly do you think you would do first?

Please get in touch with @xLaMbChOpSx through his XDA profile. I'm thankful both of you responded! I also wonder if my favourite developer on my previous HTC EVO 3D would like to have a look at our Project here: @agrabren, what's your opinion? We're seriously looking for people like you with passion for code! On a sidenote: @alchemyvibrates, I just discovered that you starred the very, very old thesis of @TomMayerDP. Already checked out our new Project here and it's funky WIP-Releases?

:exclamation: EDIT: @E3V3A and @xLaMbChOpSx, I just did a fresh search on similar projects like ours here on GitHub and discovered Spidey by @jtwarren and his contributors @n8fr8, @vedharaju and @acidtonic. Maybe those friendly freaks can help us with some of the current critical questions? Would be cool if we could welcome you in our team of developers! Whatcha say, are you in for some fun? :smile_cat:

I'm game. Please provide a todo list and any C/C++/Java needs. I'm a Senior Software Architect for a large firm and would be happy to provide my services. I have over 10 years of professional experience and I've been coding since I was 7 years old when I discovered BASIC. I would be happy to take on some of the more advanced algorithms and tasks in my spare time.

Sole architect of many large enterprise C++ apps. Lately I've been big into the new C++11 (icc, gcc, otl, catch, libmicrohttpd, cimg, opengl), but I can come back to Java to support a noble cause!

Familiar with debuggers such as Valgrind, Intel Debugger, gdb, Intel Vtune, nemiver. Definitely a Vim hacker. Lock-free datastructures, Move semantics, perfect forwarding, development rigor.

Let's do this! :black_joker:

SecUpwN commented 10 years ago

@E3V3A, now how cool is THAT? First of all, welcome in our development team, @acidtonic! You seem to be a PERFECT addition to make this App become a full success and hopefully team up with our current developer @xLaMbChOpSx. I'm EXTREMELY HAPPY to have you here! Before launching your coding rocket, please have a look at the curently still open Issues as well as the following questions:

Looking forward to hear from you on XDA, feel free to post in our official development thread!

E3V3A commented 10 years ago

@acidtonic Fantastic! Welcome! Just send me your email via XDA PM and I'll get back to you ASAP.

E3V3A commented 10 years ago

@acidtonic Have a look at #65 and the latest bug post. See if you can do anything about that. If you can get me the AT command function enabled, I'll buy you at least a couple of wine bottles next time we meet.

agrabren commented 10 years ago

I can also see what I can do to help...

Now we're talking! And I'll be smiling all evening...

sethbdev commented 10 years ago

Hey, I apologize for taking so long to see your question. Overlooked your call but just saw it when reading back through everything. I did star the very very old repository and actually cloned everything. Since then, I've been reading everything and learning the ins-and-outs of all the material. Have been building labs and testing as much as possible. I've had my heart in this project since the first XDA post and have been working to get myself in a place to contribute quality work. I keep up to date on all the discussion and try to learn everything to help push the project forward. Doing lots of research and hope to come forward with findings soon.

SecUpwN commented 10 years ago

@agrabren, great to see your interest in our Project! Hope you and @alchemyvibrates get a DarkCoin address as well (send it to me on XDA) so that I can send donations to you. Your silent efforts to push AIMSICD are very welcome, @alchemyvibrates - thanks a lot! @E3V3A, check your PMs on XDA! :smiling_imp:

@n8fr8, what is the best way of introducing our project to the @guardianproject in order to get it added to the list of secure Apps (which I tried multiple times via E-Mail since last year without response)?

SecUpwN commented 10 years ago

@n8fr8, are you ignoring my previous question? @vedharaju, have you seen our Project yet?

n8fr8 commented 10 years ago

No, not ignoring just have a lot of things in the air AND it is summer (family vacations, etc)...

We don't do a good job of maintaining that list which is shame because people do look at it quite a bit. I do think your qualify, though its a special kind of end-user obviously... not our typical Orbot / ChatSecure user.

Anyhow, the next time we update that list. I will make sure you are in.

SecUpwN commented 10 years ago

@n8fr8, is there anything I can do to add it to the list of @guardianproject myself? I'd be extremely thankful if you did so, but I know that most of the time nothing gets done until I do it myself (experience of life). Also, this might avoid further work on your end, I'm sure you got much stuff on your plate.

Last question: Could you please recommend us to your fellow developer pals to check out our Project? Without pushing you, keep in mind that we're still struggling with adding core features and would very much welcome any new developers you know of. In the mean time, have a funky summer and enjoy life!

E3V3A commented 10 years ago

@acidtonic Hey dude! Are you still up for some action? https://github.com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector/issues/2#issuecomment-46077890

SecUpwN commented 10 years ago

Ok, I am about to finally close this Issue soon. Some last questions before doing so:

@n8fr8, it seems the list of secure Apps has been updated since your last comment. I still don't see us in there. I know you're sick of us. Can I submit a pull request somewhere to make that happen myself?

@acidtonic, I feel sad reading https://github.com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector/issues/2#issuecomment-46077890 and somehow feel like you tricked us. Would you please at the very least submit some pull requests ruling out some of the bugs of our App to prove what you said?

@agrabren, how are ya doing, bro? Have you had the chance to install our App yet? You'd be a tremendous help if you could digg into our code and add comments to the stuff you actually understand, making it more useful to future developers. Also, feel free to clean it up as best as possible. Thank you dude, I still remember the great time I had with my HTC EVO 3D running DisarmedToaster! :rocket:

acidtonic commented 10 years ago

I decided to start a new endeavor shortly after wanting to work with you guys. I even told you I was on vacation and had a bunch of things come up.

Please take me off your email lists and stop acting like I "tricked you". I'm getting married soon and rebuilding 2 vehicles along with building a commercial product. Sorry but I don't have the time.

Cheers
