To enable interoperability following FAIR data principles (FAIR = Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) we should start adding a field for Wikidata IDs next to the ORCID field. Wikidata IDs are a string like this: Q727045.
If a person has a Wikidata ID it's usually linked to other IDs and other information about the person, like their gender, citizenship etc, which could also mean we wouldn't have to collect so much of this kind of information ourselves.
