Status Monitor visibility #190

There is an improvement to the GUI that we would like to make. It would be 
convenient if the Status Monitor window stayed on top of the main menu all the 
time. Currently, the status monitor goes behind the main menu, and in order to 
bring it back up or make it visible, users need to move the main menu aside and 
drag the status monitor out.
