301 vs 404 Strategy for SEO

Suggestion from Ken: "I suggest focusing on the category level 404’s and redirect to the appropriate new category. Google Search Console tells you the priority (not in the download)."

This suggestion was based on:

"The full week is attached. We are looking into the conversion rate YOY drop.

Overall the performance is good:

· Sessions up 32% · Sales up 28% · Conversion down 3.7% (looking into this further)

Paid media is also positive overall: · Sessions up 20% · Sales up 18% · Conversion down 8% (driven by drop in affiliate and PPC shopping which we will investigate) "

and

"Digging into natural search and noticing a significant rise in 404 errors since mid feb. Could be a contributing factor to a drop in CV rate and higher bounce rates in nat search."

• From Noriel (nuked them) and after our meeting is it ok to erase all 301/302 redirects from staging (since this really for external use and noone should search staging)
• Can I erase all 301 redirects pointing to home?
• Can we export a list of all current 301/302 from production?
