What is the copyright license for this font?

ChALkeR commented 6 years ago

@atoponce This is basically a script that extracts a subset of the Symbola font by g1951d, so the license should be the same as the license for Symbola font, given that it permits modification.

It looks like that it had the following license some time earlier: https://github.com/nordicdyno/talk_uni_edu/blob/master/fonts/Symbola605/Symbola605.txt

Fonts in ‘Unicode Fonts for Ancient Scripts’ are offered free for any use; they may be opened, edited, modified, regenerated, posted, packaged and redistributed.

This is that webarchive shows for January 2018: http://web.archive.org/web/20180129230141/http://users.teilar.gr/~g1951d/

In lieu of a licence; fonts and documents in this site are free for any use; George Douros

Unfortunately, this is what it lists now:

Software on this site is free strictly for personal, non-commercial use; George Douros

Looks like the license changed to a restrictive one somewhere in 2018.

The fonts repackaged here were obtained under the previous permissive license (as they were rebuilt prior to the license change), but triggering make would apparently download and build Symbola fonts under the restrictive license now.

@atoponce Thanks for bringing my attention to this.

Looks like v10.x (and earlier) of the Symbola font were licensed under the permissive license, v11.0 (and above?) is licensed under a restrictive license.

This repo doesn't use or distribute v11.0, but triggering a rebuild would download that.
