Create a Games Page #74

Description

We've played so many inspiring and fun Programming Games that I can't remember them all! And I'm betting my viewers can't either. Let's collect YouTube, Steam, Humble Bundle, and my review in one place so we can share these rad games!

Changes

Create a Games Page

We have a few pages like this one already. There's /podcasts and /talks. Both of these use a layout that I need to refactor out in a separate PR. All the games are posts, and the date is the last time I played the game. We give all the games a category in the frontmatter of games, and then we can iterate through them. I put the styles in the components, mostly because I can.

Add a few games as Posts

Create a post for each game. It should have a thumbnail, description, and category of games in the frontmatter.

I have never contributed to an open-source project before. This issue seems interesting I have basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Is this issue still open for contribution?

Hi @Ndace-hash !! I'm really glad you're interested in open-source, and want to get started contributing!

This repository is for my personal site: chael.codes. I don't think I've provided enough detail for this story to be worked on. (I really just use these issues as an open to-do list.) I'm not sure if this is the right project for your first contribution.

If you really want to, I won't say no, but again, I don't really have things set up for contributors.

The site runs on Jekyll, so after you fork and clone it, you can start it with bundle exec jekyll serve --livereload.

Also, I don't have any of the data sources or game reviews written yet!

@Ndace-hash I found this repo that has html and css buttons, and a good contributing guide: https://github.com/sButtons/sbuttons if you're looking for a good place to make your first open-source contribution, this might be good.

Thanks you so much Rachael. I'll check it out.
