[Chernobog] Charon's Claw puddle particles no longer accurately reflect spell's real duration or area of effect #1669

previously - and by that i mean, for the last several years, ever since Chernobog's introduction to RPC - his Q spell's trails have granted him free pathing as long as those shadowy patches remained on-screen. this is consistent with the behavior of Spectral Dagger, the Dota spell upon which Charon's Claw is based.

as of this most recent Chernobog rework, which was entirely unannounced and a complete surprise to RPC 1's remaining development team, this predictable and well-established behavior has suddenly changed. the Charon's Claw projectile grants Chernobog (and other allied units) free pathing in a radius around it as it travels, and it does still leave behind shadowy patches on the ground in a line behind it. however, these patches no longer have any effect by default; that is to say, they are objects which are visible to the player, but which do absolutely nothing. they do not indicate areas in which allied units enjoy the benefits of the spell, nor do they indicate areas where the spell's debuff effects are applied to enemies. they exist merely to trick the player into thinking they still have free pathing in the affected areas, and they persist FOR OVER SIX SECONDS LONGER than the duration of free pathing provided by the Q projectile.

instead, to restore this traditional functionality, which every Dota player has taken for granted since Spectre's addition to the game well over a decade ago, you have to purchase and equip the new T4-2 Glyph. until you do that, those puddles are just a lie.

SUGGESTED COURSE OF ACTION:

i would prefer it if we reverted this specific change, and restored the proper function of Spectral Dagger that everyone knows and loves. this would require changing Glyph T4-2 to make it less redundant, and i am more than willing to provide an amended tooltip that will reflect whatever changes are made to the Glyph.

if, for whatever reason, this change will not be reverted, then those puddle particles MUST have their duration changed to accurately reflect whether or not the spell's effects are being applied in that area.

If you ask me, i'd prefer the whoever made the patch go suck a dick instead.

i had a wonderful conversation with 8neame, the author of this Chernobog rework, and he explained that the issues i described are primarily the fault of Valve's tools. he has indicated that he agrees with me, that this is not an ideal situation, and he intends to solve it at some time in the near future. i was very happy to hear from him.
