I'd rather use the actual names, that way translations are included.
(The oftentimes buggy renaming of rocket doesn't help; sometimes I try to rename a rocket and the rocket just reverts to its previous name.)
You wouldn't happen to have a log from when this happened? I doubt it'll show anything, but you never know.
Echoing my comment on the "Passenger Rocket Tweaks" page, I propose, if possible, that the hover panel that pops up when I hover my mouse over a pinned rocket icon, to show a short summary of passengers (a "Passenger Consist").

5N 5S 2O(which means 5 no-specs, 5 scientists, 2 officers) will do nicely.The reason being I sometimes launch multiple rockets from Earth with about the same number of passengers, and if I forget to note the rocket's name, then come time to land on Mars, I'll be confused as to which rocket should land on which pad.
