Chris, can you look into and possibly do a video on Shadow Drive? It is essentially cloud hosting, like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. I came across it yesterday and it involves using the CLI and I got lost. You can find out more about it at https://docs.genesysgo.com/shadow/shadow-drive/the-cli
Thought I'd drop this run cmd for you as it still works for some unknown reason (win11 build 22621.1265): control /name Microsoft.Printers
I could not agree more. The Windows experience seems to be more about telemetry and how fluffy the GUI is rather than a positive UX. What happened to quality?
Honestly when they stop supporting Windows 10, I'm probably just going to switch back to Linux. I've only been on Windows solely for gaming. I don't have the financial capability to just buy a new gaming system just to be able to use Windows 11 when my current machine still is capable of running even the most graphically intense of the games that I end up playing on high or ultra settings. If the games I want to continue playing switched to having a Linux version, I'd switch to Linux today. If only.
Chris, First: Thank you. I find your work products very helpful. I am one of many that "try" to support Windows users in a retirement community of 9000+ rooftops. I have similar perspectives about what Microsoft does "TO" its customers. Maybe?? Someday? Microsoft will pay attention?
COOL
I just tried around with that in Windows 11 Pro 22H2. I started the old system control by typing control and starting it. When you left-click here on the printers and devices Icon, it will start up the new UI printers tab. If you right-click it and click Open, it will show the old printers control panel, where you even have the add printer and other buttons. I don't know if they changed it after your video, but for now I think its a nice workaround.
As usual, everything was explained very well.
"Microsoft is in a panic from the continued loss of it’s user base"
"It's" should be "its" (no apostrophe).
Is there data or evidence that MS is losing its user base?
Like many others, I only use Windows for gaming. I have an old Apple machine, but Linux is really the future. If I were Microsoft, SteamOS would terrify me. Their entire Azure system exists because people are familiar with Windows and Office. If a new generation of tech-savvy folks has a little Python skill, and some SQL skill, there is no point in using Windows+Office. Microsoft is playing a dangerous game. Many young people are learning Linux first. Instead of bloating their software out of control, Microsoft should be expanding the appeal of their products. Instead they are predictably squeezing every last cent out of their customers. Perhaps that is the best option. Qualcom clearly thinks so with VMware.
At least it keeps open the market for quality replacements. I would pay for a modern version of Excel 2003 (sans ribbon) that can easily work with Excel files. A modern replacement for Access could easily clear a billion a year in sales. I am desperate for good software that I can BUY. I do not license software, and I never will. The SAAS trap will collapse on its own weight eventually,
Many young people are learning Linux first.
I'd like to see more data WRT this.
I don't think this company is dying. Proof of this can be the great operating system Windows 11 Pro. It's a really great system and the price in this store is really low and I recommend it to others: https://royalcdkeys.com/products/windows-11-pro-retail-cd-key
