Since you do love to code... think if you would make it more suited to install easy on RH-distroes... I think I would love it.. :D

Anyway keep up the great work on both the vlog, git and else!

Shinusagi commented 1 year ago

Nice, sad it won't work on OpenSuse, but I will get it close for any future install of a Deb distro

Newer1107 commented 1 year ago

how do I run this in fedora?

phemto5 commented 1 year ago

fedora doesn't use groups or apt... maybe there is an alternative? What happens in the starship script ?

fearlessgeekmedia commented 1 year ago

Ah, I see we're only supporting debian-based distributions, using apt. Gonna have to edit this install script for arch based distros like ArcoLinux. There goes the whole idea of two lines of code. LOL. Good thing I'm up for the task!

even if i am into sudoers group.

Yes!! I should specify this that i have used this command:

sudo usermod -aG wheel jay

That was debian habit😅

th3jesta commented 1 year ago

So I installed this in WSL, and added

[git_status]
windows_starship = "/mnt/c/Users/username/scoop/apps/starship/current/starship.exe"

...to the starship config to fix the painfully slow git status performance in VSCode, per these instructions, and everything is great except for this pesky little question box when in a git directory: Question Box I admit I'm a little out of my depth with starship, so if you all have any input, it would be appreciated. It happens with the Caskaydia Nerd Font as well as FiraCode NF Retina, so I don't think it's related to NFs.

mschemerii commented 1 year ago

Can you do a video on .bashrc vs/and .bash_profile? I have an extensively modified .bash_profile. All of these kind of tweaks use .bashrc, which I don’t understand.

fearlessgeekmedia commented 1 year ago

Some distributions have the sudoers group. Others have the wheel group. The installer here was written for Debian/Ubuntu users in mind. For those on Arch based installers, I created an installer for Arch which has been merged into this.

This works fine on fedora. I needed to chmod the .sh file in order to run it. After that, restart the terminal and enjoy.

chmod u+x setup.sh is what fixed it.

EazyDefcon commented 11 months ago

Do I need to add a group or what? I get this: "You need to be a member of the sudo group to run me!"

EazyDefcon commented 11 months ago

Never mind. The command "chmod u+x setup.sh" above my post sorted it out. It should perhaps be in the guide.

Hi Chris,

Firstly thank you for all that you do with your YouTube videos. I want to change github .bashrc file that has been cloned to my PC but it is asking for a veracrypt password. I have installed veracrypt but I have not put this clone in a veracrypt file. I am missing something as you did not mention anything like this.

Thanks Raymond

Hi Is there a way to change the colors? for the prompt and general text color scheme?

sw0rdd commented 8 months ago

For some reason, pressing, ctrl + will make the window bigger instead of zooming in the text, same for ctrl -, anyone know how I can fix that?

GooodnewsMaphumulo commented 7 months ago

Great work!

But I'm experiencing this issue:

The prompt in my terminal includes the version information (e.g., v11.4.0). I have tried to modify the terminal prompt to remove the version information by customizing shell prompt settings but no luck.

Roopaish commented 5 months ago

how to revert back, i haven't backed up my .bashrc. Is there any safe way?

Roopaish commented 5 months ago

Note: By default this will symlink your ~/.bashrc and wipe out any customizations you have made! Missed this now all my configs are gone.

Roopaish commented 5 months ago

nvm there was .bashrc.bak file

TeddyToodles commented 4 months ago

I have installed and works perfectly but as people have mentioned I have trouble with ~/Documents directory, it's only this directory all others work fine. I'm using Ubuntu 23.10 and installed both Nerd fonts and code fonts nothing seems to fix it. Screenshot from 2024-02-15 08-36-36

Paul-Chaffey commented 3 months ago

This is great, but I have one little issue. Neofetch stops finding the correct distribution (I'm on Kubuntu 23.10) but since adding this in defaults back to Ubuntu. I have checked the ~/.config/neofetch/config.conf and the ascii_distro="Kubuntu". I also checked echo $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS which neofetch I believe uses to determine which ubuintu flavour is being used. It points to: /home/paul/.config/kdedefaults:/etc/xdg:/usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kf5-settings

It's no show stopper, but it's nice to understand what's causing this.

It looks that you don't have .config/ in your ${HOME} folder.
