Purpose of this Issue

A tracking list for Requesting & Tracking Progress for addition to applications.json file, which contains all the apps that WinUtil currently has.

Credits

Thanks for everyone who requested, added and/or pointed out problems in the applications.json file, and a special thanks to @ModernTTY for his PR, which added a bunch of the requested apps found in This Issue. This Tracking List will be a Continuation of the previous two.

  • If you found one or more apps listed in The Main Branch of WinUtil to be outdated

Search the Package ID of the outdated program using winget-cli by running following command in a powershell or CMD window: winget search "Program Name"

then Request A Package Update Request over on Microsoft's Official WinGet Packages Repo, then choosing ✏️ Package Update Request entry, found in this link

Do Not submit a Package Update Request over here (on WinUtil's Issues), because these kinds of Issues will be closed as not planned/won't do.

The Programs List (Click To Expand)

❌ Will Not Be Added

  • ❌ Opera GX
πŸ€” Reason for denying this addition: The maintainer stated multiple times in different live streams that he (Chris Titus) will not use OperaGX (for different reasons explained in those live streams), and so it'll never be added to WinUtil applications list.
  • ❌ SchildiChat (SchildiChat.SchildiChat) (#1897)
πŸ€” Reason for denying this addition: The maintainer stated in this comment that this App is simply never have been heard by him (Chris titus), so It won't be added in the near/far future.
I hope everyone who've wanted that this program to be added onto Project's List to understand why it wasn't added, and as a side note, there's also another way of getting it (this requested program) installed on your system, like using a Package Manager, e.g. WinGet.
  • ❌ Explorer patcher
πŸ€” Reason by WinUtil's Maintainer (@ChrisTitusTech): "explorer patcher is known to cause stability issues with windows explorer."
        Source of this statement
  • ❌ Proton Drive (Proton.ProtonDrive) (comment & comment in issue #1782) <--- PR Available & PR Available, ~Wating for PR to be merge~ PRs Closed, did not get merged for one or more reasons.

  • ❌ Proton Mail (Proton.ProtonMail) (comment in issue #1782) <--- PR Available, ~Wating for PR to be merge~ PR Closed, did not get merged for one or more reasons.

  • ❌ Proton Mail Bridge (Proton.ProtonMailBridge) (comment in issue #1782) <--- PR Available, ~Wating for PR to be merge~ PR Closed, did not get merged for one or more reasons.

  • ❌ Figma (Figma.Figma) (issue #2073) <--- PR Available, ~Wating for PR to be merge~ PR Rejected, look into the PR for more info/context.
πŸ€” Reason: There's a WinGet Package for this program (Package ID is Figma.Figma), but the Chocolatey package for it is somewhat outdated, please correct me if I'm wrong.

β›” Can't Add for one reason or another

  • β›” MPV (comment in #374)
πŸ€” Reason: mpv is compiled and shared on sourceforge.net, link to releases folder, but it's shared as a .7z, WinGet CLI only supports .zip Archiving Format, at least for the time being. further reading.
πŸ‘ Here's an alternative: mpv.net (package identifier is mpv.net), Link to Repo.
  • β›” MPO GPU (#1552 , comment in #374)
πŸ€” Reason: Probably because this program requires an A GPU to be install on the system, not 100% sure so correct me if I'm wrong, therefore it might not pass the Automated Tests that winget-pkgs repo enforces on every PR, so sadly.. I, and probably everyone else can't add this piece of software to WinGet, at least for the time being...
  • β›” ZenTimings (comment in #374)
πŸ€” Reason: Probably because this program requires an AMD CPU to install on the system, therefore it might not pass the Automated Tests that winget-pkgs repo enforces on every PR, so sadly.. I, and probably everyone else can't add this piece of software to WinGet, at least for the time being...
  • β›” H2TestW (No WinGet package for it yet) (comment in issue #374)
πŸ€” Reason: No WinGet Package for H2TestW, and Cannot add it to winget-pkgs repo because the Official Download Link on their wesbite ( link is https://h2testw.org/ ) Does Not Work, explained right here as well.
  • β›” LosslessCut (No Winget package for it yet) (comment in issue #1782)
πŸ€” Reason: LosslessCut is compiled and released on GitHub, link to the releases page, but it's shared as a .7z, WinGet CLI only supports .zip Archiving Format, at least for the time being. further reading.
  • β›” MSI Util v3 (No Winget nor choco package for it yet, and no trusted sources for it have been found) (comment in issue #1782, issue #2015)
πŸ€” Reason: No Winget nor choco package for it yet, and no trusted sources for it have been found.
  • β›” InSpectre (No Winget nor choco package for it yet) (comment in issue #1782, issue #2015)
πŸ€” Reason: No Winget nor choco package for it yet.
  • β›” Java 16 runtime (EclipseAdoptium.Temurin.16JRE) (comment in [#250] (https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/issues/250))

Can this Issue be pinned @ChrisTitusTech ?

ModernTTY commented 4 months ago

These apps are requested in issue #250:

All except for Java 16 are done in PR #1787

og-mrk commented 4 months ago

Will make PRs on the first few programs in the list, which're: Tixati, PDFGear, Windows Firewall Control, Unigram, OrcaSlicer, CapFrameX, VistaSwitcher, Uplay.

Some will take longer to make than the other, due to the fact some of these programs don't have a WinGet Package, but do have a Chocolatey package.

YusufKhalifadev commented 4 months ago

@og-mrk I will try to add mpv.net to winutil in a PR soon

Hello! I'm not sure if this the place to request addition of app in the tool, but here it goes - Could you please add Auto Dark Mode - https://github.com/AutoDarkMode/Windows-Auto-Night-Mode I find it incredibly useful! Thanks in advance.

Adding this comment so GitHub Actions doesn't close this issue.

og-mrk commented 4 months ago

Hello @ChrisTitusTech, If you don't mind doing a tiny request, which's adding a Keep Issue Open Label & Pinning this issue?

I think new comers to this repo will be able to request new apps by simply commenting on this Issue Tracking List, which will make tracking a lot easier, continuingly searching new issues from time to time for just app requests, would be somewhat time consuming, and it'll add the benefit of keeping issues in WinUtil Repo for just Bug Reporting & Features/Enhancements Requests.

If for any particular reason you may not want this, then it's completely fine πŸ‘

ChrisTitusTech commented 4 months ago

@og-mrk Thanks OG got it done

Hello,

I just found out about this incredible utility and have already added a few of the listed programs to my arsenal. Big thanks to everyone involved!

I'll go ahead and list some programs I find indespenible that I would love to see included:

  1. LosslessCut - https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut

An indespensible tool as a first stop for any video editor looking to quickly and losslessly cut videos. It's extremely intuitive and easy to use for what it does. Was slightly suprised to not see it listed.

  1. Ditto - https://ditto-cp.sourceforge.io

A very feature rich and fast clipboard manager (windows only), which I much prefer over CopyQ. Can't live without it

  1. RDCMan - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/rdcman

Simple and effective Remote Desktop Connections manager. This classic is maintained by Microsoft's Sysinternals nowdays and has seen a fair few of updates in recent times. If you mainly work with RD connections then this is all you'll ever need. I've had issues with mRemoteNG's clipboard sharing before which I've never managed to fix. Switched to this and never looked back.

  1. Mp3tag - https://www.mp3tag.de/en/

It's probably the most popular utility for editing any music file's tags. Has been actively developed for many years now

  1. FanControl - https://github.com/Rem0o/FanControl.Releases

Utility for controling your CPU/GPU fans which provides an unparalleled level of control

og-mrk commented 4 months ago

Hello @mtaki14 Very nice program suggestions, I'll update the list and make a PR tomorrow to add them to WinUtil's Test Branch, if said PR is merged, the changes will be available to the public/masses once The Test Branch is merged into Main Branch (probably in a week to two from now).

ModernTTY commented 4 months ago

@og-mrk So I looked in to H2TestW a bit more. So for me in Europe the download does work but I did find another official website for the download https://www.heise.de/download/product/h2testw-50539/download (that is the developers website) that also works (again at least for Europe).

worked like a charm on my end, thanks for the info @ModernTTY, will try and create a PR to winget-pkgs repo and see where it'll go.

EDIT: After looking into how the download happens, it turns out it'll response with a Random URL each time you try and download the program, and each Newly Generated Link has a expiration embedded in URL, meaning I can't really add it to winget-pkgs repo, thereby I can't add it to WinUtil.. sigh, oh well, guess it was never meant to be 😞

Hello,

thanks for the amazing app.

One programm I wish would be added to the list is

In the end the only reason is that I prefer this over Thundebird is that they for better or worse killed the addon for full adress columns for sender or and receiver of emails. It is only a small feature but it makes my life a lot easier filtering out spam without me needing to view the header files. Betterbird has this feature built in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243258 It seems they maybe have closed this issue, but I can't see the change in my Thunderbird install, config editor does not show any entry either.

@ModernTTY I did check before making PR https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/pull/1876, and sure thing it wasn't added before to WinUtil's Applications List. A GitHub User by the Username of Today20092 (Ayoub) has tried to add this particular program in multiple PRs before ( https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/pull/1293, https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/pull/1700, https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/pull/1701, and https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/pull/1722 ), all of which were closed for one reason or another.

Potential solutions for the following apps (clicking their name shows what app repos they're available in):

For any content hosted on github, we can potentially skip using package managers entirely. The json on https://api.github.com/repos/<userid>/<repo>/releases/ or https://api.github.com/repos/<userid>/<repo>/releases/latest can be parsed, and a list of browser_download_url items containing .msi and .exe can be obtained.

0-dot commented 3 months ago

Hello thank you very much for the great Windows Utility!

The only thing I'm really missing is the open source file synchronization program

For audio/video conversion I like to use

og-mrk commented 3 months ago

@rcmaehl

  • MPV MPV is available on Chocolatey and Scoop (Extras Bucket). The Chocolately package appears to be named MPVIO specifically.

Sadly, only Chocolatey and WinGet are supported in WinUtil, so using Scoop to install packages isn't supported at the time of writing, MPV has an alternative (mpv.io), but if you really want the "Original"/CLI version, then I've made some research behind Compiling and Uploading MPV in a GitHub Repo, so I (and anyone who knows WinGet Manifests) can create a Package for it.. which isn't possible otherwise (technical difficulties with archive formats, other than the supported .zip format, see the MPV entry in the Tracking List to know more).

But I do like the idea of supporting other Package Managers, could be a cool addition to WinUtil.

  • NPCAP NPCAP is available on ConanClient but that doesn't seem too useful for us

NPCAP can be added actually, it's just outdated, haven't found the time to see if I can update it on WinGet, see the Npcap entry in the Tracking List to know more.

  • LossLessCut LossLessCut is available in Scoop (Extras Bucket)

Again, Scoop is isn't supported in WinUtil at the current time/date, but I do like the idea of adding more Package Managers. But a main concern you've to keep in mind (if we add more Package Managers), that issues may arise from it, Like Outdated Software in one/more Package managers, ID for a Program is Changed (therefore we'll need to Update the list more frequently)

A dedicated way of Installing Programs directly should be, at least in my opinion, separated from the Package Installed Ones, either by:

A- a Visual Separation (like making the Entry for Program's Checkbox highlighted with Blue or Red for example) B- or making it in a menu (not a tab, I mean a menu, similar to who The Find Text Box/Line (on the Right Side of the Tabs), which's used for Filtering the Checkboxes of WinUtil)

og-mrk commented 3 months ago

@0-dot

The only thing I'm really missing is the open source file synchronization program

FreeFileSync is currently being added in This PR, once the PR is Accepted & Merged, then it should be available in the Next Release of WinUtil.

For audio/video conversion I like to use

Looked into this Program.. but I can't tell if it's freeware or Open Source Project, this matters because WinUtil currently has a lot of programs in its App List, so to cut some of it down, The Currently Available Trial-ware will be remove by Chris titus (Owner of this Repo/Project), most of it if not all Trial-ware Software, and Future PRs that contain Trial-ware software will probably be rejected.

So if you could send a Link to XMedia Recode's Source Code (that's, if it's Open Source), so it can be added to the list, hope you can understand the concerns that're stated in previous paragraph, and thanks in advance πŸ˜„

On the German-language version of the website, the following text is not translated into English: "XMedia Recode is a free video converter." I have not found any reference to the source code either, so it probably cannot be used in this context? A pity. 2024-05-05-306

Perhaps there is a comparable program in Winutil that I have not yet discovered ...

Thanks @rcmaehl for the quick reply and your efforts.

Things I find Useful: 1) Wise Program Uninstaller (WiseCleaner.WiseProgramUninstaller, no choco) https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-program-uninstaller.html

Not as many tools as Revo, BUT, it will uninstall EDGE and COPILOT regardless of installation state.

2) Joytokey (JTKsoftware.JoyToKey, joytokey) https://joytokey.net/en/download

Very handy for mapping any controller/joystick

These next two aren't in winget, etc. BUT are so useful.

1) MSI_util_v3 https://www.mediafire.com/file/ewpy1p0rr132thk/MSI_util_v3.zip/file havn't tried the github file: https://github.com/Sathango/Msi-Utility-v3/blob/main/Msi%20Utility%20v3.exe

This is a clean MSI mode utility that allows the user to change IRQ/MSI and affinity states.

2) InSpectre https://www.grc.com/inspectre.htm

This tool checks for spectre/meltdown unicode status and will allow for disabling/enabling these for extra performance especially on older PCs.

These would be great tools to have available as a 'configure' or 'tweak'???

Thanks for all you do.

I would just make a pull request but have never done said and wasn't sure how Id go about asking about the last 2 requests.

https://codewith.mu/ MU is installed by default on Raspberry Pi. Mu Python IDE for beginners. A really simple to use IDE for Python with a clean interface. No winget package available; Windows users have to download a .msi file for installation. I was wondering if we could get this program added to the winutil package under the Development section?

Hi all, I'm new to this GitHub scene, but I'm a big fan of CTT

I was just wondering if we could add some additional applications to CTT Wintool

Following Applications, I wish to be added Mp3Tag - https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/mp3tag/3.26.0 Tag scanner - https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/tagscanner

I'm not sure if ive done the post correctly but please comment below if I need to make changes

Following Applications, I wish to be added Mp3Tag - https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/mp3tag/3.26.0

This's already added in PR https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil/pull/1865 ( in commit 9cbff3d2245728985f1847bd0b246b7cfaf88b55 )

Tag scanner - https://community.chocolatey.org/packages/tagscanner

will make a new PR adding this (see the tracking list above, and the PR which tries to add this addition).

Thanks for the cool app suggestions @DarkSideAm πŸ‘

EDIT: Made a PR recently that adds 'TagScanner' app into the applications.json list (here's a link to it)

Will look into this list of apps you've suggested @Gray-F, but I can't promise that all of these will be possible to add, or even get accepted by the project's maintainer.

ADD ? Direct X OneClick Direct X OneClick.zip

C++2005-2022 OneClick C++2005-2022 OneClick.zip

sharing archive files (.zip files) is not the recommended way of requesting app additions, can you provide the app names @KOX599 ?

for Direct X and C++ Runtimes, these should be available in WinUtil if I'm not mistaken.. meaning that you can use WinUtil to install these apps/runtimes.

I don't want to keep bothering everyone with several messages on here, but I hope everyone likes the following programs I've mentioned so far since joining Github. How would you like to style the messages in the future?

If you are talking about program requests you can just give us the name of the program and link to the program if there is one but if there isn't that is fine. If you are talking about something else please do let me know.

Sure no problems @DarkSideAm , You can contact me over Discord if you want, here's a link to my account: https://discordapp.com/users/734034002226184226

Anyone can contact me over there.. but please understand to have some limits when doing conversations (in other words.. keep it professional), plus the fact I don't usually use Discord anymore (due to Discord's telemetry), so don't expect a quick respond when contacting me over DM (usually check it once a day.. or never at times πŸ˜…).

EDIT: If your question is related to this Issue Ticket (Requesting Apps).. then I recommend doing it over here, as others can see your request, and add it when they could πŸ‘
