I'm getting an error installing the VC++ Redistributable. That may be your
issue too. Any ideas how to fix it?

Today I d/led the last SlimDX SDK and it doesn't install. Error message is:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the
Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel
for assistance."
I tried to repair the register for msiserver, restarted Windows, it didn't help.
No problems with other msi's.
Please, help ASAP. I need these libraries and see no other way to install - no
exe, no zip.

PS. When I turned off the Auto-Sandbox feature of my Comodo antivirus, the
installer started to work.

Unfortunately I can't do anything about interference from anti-virus software
other than keep it in mind for the future if other people encounter the issue
as well. Thanks for letting me know what fixed it.
For anyone still having problems, if you could submit an install log that would
help a lot. You can enable logging by running the installer from the command
line:

I'm having a similar issue when trying to install SlimDX SDK (January 2012). I
receive the message "There is a problem with Windows Installer Package. A
program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your
support personnel or package vendor". It specifically happens when it reaches
the "Removing Backup Files" portion of the install. As seen in the picture.
I've tried every solution I could possibly find in the last few days and I'm at
my wits end. I tried reinstalling my windows installer, I've done ton of scans
on my computer, including the disk and registry, showing no errors. I am
currently running on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit with DirectX 11. My .NET
Framework is 4.5.2. my latest Microsoft Visual C++ is 2010 x64 and x86
Redistributable. I uninstalled the 2010 pack and 2008 pack to see if it would
work with no success. The Anti virus I have I uninstalled, I even shut off my
Firewall to see if that would work. No success. For the heck of it, I tried
installing the SlimDX runtime applications just to see if they would work. The
32 bit 4.0 version is the only one that can install, while the Net 2.0, and the
64 bit Net 4.0 version wont install with the same error as the SDK. Is there
something I'm missing? Prerequisite software? I'm lost at this point. Any help
would be appreciative. I also uninstalled the KB2918614 update.

I suspect the issue is coming from a dependency installation, but can you try
and get some logs out to try and find the actual error code, using the /L
option?

You may also wish to look at issue 902 and see if it helps
