I am unsure whether their change for transferring .TiVo files from and to TiVo
into
transport stream is the problem with Streambaby as I am currently unable to even
stream .mp4 files which should be working.
I've got an official reply from a TiVo representative I contacted recently:
We're giving it a go to try and find out this information for you from TiVo Inc.
We're right in the middle of preparations for launch, so I would wager a guess
it
won't be until next week that any remote form of answer will emerge. Will keep
you
posted and thanks for contacting us! We're really hoping to get Streambaby back
online.

Hope you guys can get it back, we're supporting you. A quick question about the
priority level, shouldn't the defect rating be a high priority if the product
is now
unusable because of the TiVo change?
Streambaby is the the only reason to buy the HNP.

Hi, I'm just wondering if there's been any work on this one as yet - We'd
really love
to continue using Streambaby, but it's completely disabled for AUS folk.
Any update from the dev's would be greatly appreciated.

Not really any status on this yet-- There has been some attempt to switch to
mpeg-ts
streams instead of mpeg-ps streams but the reports have been it doesn't seem to
make
a difference.
The original streaming code was reverse-engineered from the YouTube option on US
Tivo's which doesn't exist on AU TiVo's-- This makes it difficult to see what
has
changed on the AU TiVo's. It may be the case that it it is not even possible to
stream to the AU TiVo's since YouTube would have been the only TiVo-supplied
application that actually uses it.
So the bottom line is we are pretty much at a standstill.

don't know if this helps but https://mytivoip/nowplaying/index.html
has both "Download MPEG-PS" and "Download MPEG-TS"
Also the setting streambaby.ini option to "ffmpegexe.transcode= -vcodec mpegts"
failed to open stream.

Thanks landogwork, but after looking into it a bit more, it is going to take a
right
one to fix the issue ;-)
Realistically I don't think this is going to get fixed anytime soon-- It may
not even
be possible to fix, as there is no way to confirm whether or not the streaming
capability is still in the aussie TiVos, as there is no TiVo supported
application
that uses it (the US TiVos support YouTube which uses the streaming capability,
but
the Aussie TiVos don't have that feature)
It's probably going to take some intervention from TiVo (either via some
information
or an update) or some intrepid Aussie hacker to figure this out. I don't even
know
what the next step I could take would be.

Ok Aussies and kiwis have now been without streambaby for 6 months and its time
for
a revolution, lol!!!
But seriously guys c'mon lets do something about this, I am willing to loan my
tivo
and offer any possible assistance needed to get this working down under again.
I am
happy to invest as much time as needed. Can anybody give me a break down of
what is
needed to start the ball rolling on this?
Can we get the priority raised to give this issue some higher visibility?
Cheers,
Nic

I was hoping that with the release of the TiVO Premiere units in the US which
have TS
support that this issue could have seen further development, as the technical
issues
could be the same.
Does streambaby support TS format on TiVO Premiere units?
I am keen to help as much as necessary in testing out any code on my unit as
long as
it doesn't require major hacking, however I am not a programmer so can't do
much at
that level.
Hoping for more movement on this issue too. ;)

Well it was fun for the 12 months it lasted but my tivo is getting listed on
Ebay. The lack of activity here is a pretty good indication nothing is going to
change.
There are too many devices out there that can fill the role of pvr/media centre
and dont have disabling updates applied while I sleep. I loved the intuitive
features and UI of tivo but it cant just rely on that.

Sorry you feel that way but the streaming is not an advertised feature of the
unit in Australia and New Zealand. I am very happy with the two units I own,
and whilst being able to use streambaby was a bonus, I am not going to sell up
all because some open source software doesn't work. As Kerry stated, not
living in Australia or New Zealand makes it hard to fix this. If anyone down
under can be cluey enough to fix this then they can use submit a patch. But
until then, you get what you pay for.

Hi, I am a brand new tivo owner in Australia, and just today stumbled across
streambaby. It sounded great especially as it seemed like a program I could use
to play video files that have corresponding subtitle (.srt) files, which I
discovered to my dismay don't work on normal Tivo playback. When I tried to
find out why steambaby wouldn't work, I was surprised to find that though this
problem has been around for a year now, I still couldn't find a single proposed
fix - are there any updates on this issue that I have missed?
I have to say I was kind of disappointed that the tivo wasnt more flexible when
it comes to playback of media files transferred from pc. As I dont really have
much use for any of the DVR features it offers, I fear I have made a bad
purchase and should have gone for a more general media centre device..

kearygriffin,
Is there an update on this? If this feature is broken for TiVo Premier units
(from the switch to TS), then on the Premier units would it not be possible to
re-reverse engineer streambaby from the YouTube application once again? TiVo
Inc. must have changed the YouTube application when they launched the Premier
units- or otherwise the platform (theoretically) would not work on these units.

Hi .. I too have been looking for something that Streams to Tivo. I installed
Stream Baby and received the 0xffff prize.
After reading this thread I will be sending my Tivo on an ebay holiday.
I HATE it when companies use their 'wisdom' to cripple functionality in gear.
What happened to value.

I'm not sure 100% what I changed but I'm working fine. Every couple hundred
movies I'll get the 0xffff but if I back out to the movie list and restart, it
works fine....
For those wondering, I rip, encode and run streambaby from a linux box. I use
HandBrake (handbrake.fr) for the ripping/encoding. The command I use is:
HandBrakeCLI -i "/dev/sr0" -t 1 -f mp4 -O -e x264 -b 5000 -2 -T -a 1 -E faac -s
4 -F -x ref=2:bframes=2:me=umh --strict-anamorphic -v -o $Target
/dev/sr0 is my dvd drive and $Target is the name of the output file
(/Movies/MovieFile.m4v).
I then run streambaby with the following command from a shell script:
#!/bin/bash
DIRNAME=`dirname $0`
java -Djava.awt.headless=true -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Xmx1024m -jar
"$DIRNAME/jbin/streambaby.jar" $@
Occasinally it'll die and need to be restarted so I wrote a perl script that
will watch for the death and restart it automatically. If anyone wants help
with that let me know.
Robert

Stream baby disappeared from my U.S. Tivo Premiere for some reason. I switched
to PyTivo. You have to tranfer the shows to your box before you can watch them
so its not as nice as StreamBaby but it might work as a replacement for you as
well.
