game lagging after the update #226

like in the object, idk why but from the last update it seems to be more lag..i have tried some new feature like the "pause game" but it was worse, now my settings are the same as before but the game yet is not like before.

My connection quality is always good, not changed anything

(disabling the extension it's good but i don't like the resolution/codec that it uses...so i'd like to use this ext. like before)

ChristopherKlay commented 2 years ago

I'm looking into it, but there hasn't really been any changes that affect stream performance (as in, adjustments to codec/resolution) in 1.20.0.

Someone else also reported this issue, but in his case the difference was between different resolutions (1080p when the extension wasn't actually active pre-1.20 and 4K now with the extension being fixed) and simply linked to hardware usage.

I'm currently working on 1.20.1 which will bring some features that were supposed to drop with 1.20.0 and will make sure to do performance tests/adjustments before release again as well, in case anything went wrong. (:

A little update. Here's performance checks of the current version (1.20.0) via Chrome.

Homescreen: image In-Game: image

The test CPU (AMD FX 6300 from 2012) isn't going above 15% CPU usage with hardware decoding (VP9) and idles >80% of the time. I only tested this on Chrome, Edge and Opera so far (the ones i have installed/updated), but i don't see how Brave would change this drastically.

Just to make sure:

hi Chris and thanks for your updates and replies really.

I also run on an old pc: now ( and before ) i have "software codecs " : vpn is better, h264 is unplayable now i don't know why, maybe the last versions was a bit better like h264, but i have always used vp9 like youtube videos lol.

THANKS

edit: anyhow the strange thing if that if i disable the extension it plays smooth..so i don't understand what is it, i very like this ext always played with it xD

vpn is better, h264 is unplayable now

Curious, if you deactivate the extension, open Stadia, start any game, go into the console (rightclick the Stadia menu -> inspect -> console at the top) and copy/paste in localStorage.getItem('video_codec_implementation_by_codec_key'), what's the result?

DocS788 commented 2 years ago

{"vp9":"ExternalDecoder","h264":"ExternalDecoder"}

ChristopherKlay commented 2 years ago

That could mean Stadia actually runs in VP9 without Stadia Enhanced as well, which would explain why you see a difference if you switch to H264.

DocS788 commented 2 years ago

y h264 is absolutely wrong for me, i see img with a big big delay...like teleport.

The issue is why your great app make all the game like slowed down, it's a pity i love your work xD

ChristopherKlay commented 2 years ago

Do you have those issues when playing via VP9?

DocS788 commented 2 years ago

with the extension vp9 is better that h264, but always the game is slowed down

without the extension all is ok ( like we have seen it uses vp9
