Upon clicking the replace HBMenu button (and allowing process to complete, it creates 2 files, (hbmenu.orig.nro, & hbmenu.bak.nro), then seaemingly nothing else. Attempting to open the menu via the album opened the original hbmenu instead.
To fix this I renamed the files to hbmenu.nro.orig & hbmenu.nro.bak respectively, then copied the homebrew-detailed.nro file from /switch/homebrew-detailed and pasted it to the SD card root. Then renamed it hbmenu.nro.
This did allow opening the new menu via the album, however now if I wish to open the homebrew menu, i simply click on the album icon, but if i want to actually open the album, I must hold r as I click on the icon.
