I'll be able to respond to rebuttals and all that tomorrow, sorry for losing detail and constructive feedback as time went on but you can probably guess where it was in that wall of text that I crashed.
I feel I need to say, I don't see a single point on this list that seem like things that could be put off or put aside. But I personally didn't include them in my issues for two reasons: 1. I felt like if I were the only person to bring up the wasted space issues, then I'd seem like I was needlessly poking at the map's creative design. And 2. Jakksergal's done a far better job wording this than I ever could have.
From what I've seen of the Endeavor so far, if everything listed here could be fixed, then we would have a map to rival the Tether... But a lot of these issues aren't simple fixes, and there's several issues that require some departments to be fairly completely overhauled. Above all else though, really, it needs to feel more like a space ship, and less like a prison.
I welcome any feedback, really, as Endeavour's maintainer. You have very valid points and none of these seemed like ... well, hostile?
But as Fox said, many of these things aren't simple fixes, and it's going to be a process to get them solved. Still, having a record will make things easier. Thank you.
I'm not much of an exploration player but I think they're under equiped
Yeah, no. This map actually has better equipment for Exploration than Tether (all the Explorers get their own binocs, for starters, and there's an extra exploration voidsuit) and the EXTRA THICC shuttle has a bodyscanner in addition to the sleeper (whereas Tether shuttle has just a sleeper). Anything more than starting gear is overprep a lot of the time unless your team is really big and/or utterly incompetent, the former of which is rare and the latter is reasonably uncommon.
That said, the shuttle is an oversized abomination and needs to go on a diet. The crew/passenger seats should be visible from the cockpit, so that the pilot can see buckling and non-radio responses to buckle-checks/etc. - and they should just be closer together in general so folks can chat and interact during the flight without it seeming like they're shouting across a fucking room!
I recommend switching it to a design closer to the current/Tether shuttle but somewhat more streamlined. I have a couple of alt. designs that might work (https://i.imgur.com/8xZDHQs.png), but they only have one real way in/out which makes for much slower deployment. If I could do this myself I would, but last time I tried fiddling with the airlock setups/configuration it didn't work out great and I didn't have the patience to debug it.
ED: the Breacher module, at least, is only the NT edition - a cheap knockoff with much lower armor values, and it has no integral weaponry. it should probably be somewhere more secure if it's going to remain on the map though.
Sorry for including so many things that could be seen as minor issues. This was at, y'know, midnight when writing it and I was simply scanning over the whole map and writing anything that looked out of place to me.
@Andromeda-K22 I don't know how active of a mapper you are but I've got a small discord server dedicated to Vorestation's new map which I've recently opened up to serve as a source for feedback and advice without the clutter of development chat. DM me on Discord, same name as here on the Citadel discord.
@KillianKirilenko Sorry, yeah. After looking over the Tether's prep room, this map has it better than them. Like I said I don't play explorer much because I don't enjoy herding cats. This is highly opinionated but the shuttle doesn't need an advanced medical scanner just like it doesn't need its own chemistry dispenser or surgical table. A sleeper's great at stabilizing and that's all the exploration should be doing for fatal injuries. There's grab mechanics for diagnosing broken bones and damaged limbs which field medics should know how to do.
And yeah, you're right. I forgot the NT variant was the inferior version. I'll edit that line.
Alright, this is going to be a mixture of opinions and objective feedback on the new map being demo'd as I write this. I would consider myself an experience mapper, though I don't work particularly on this codebase. I'm responsible for Engineering and Security on the Tether for those that don't know my involvement.
