It could also open the door for 'permit holders only' / 'patrons only' / 'residents only' parking feature...?
Just been doing some pondering on parking (see #346 and #342) and I'm increasingly less sure about the 'reserve parking for every car that is driving to parking'.
First, there are issues with despawning - what if if a parking spot is reserved and the car going there never makes it? Would we end up with an infestation of 'reserved but never used' parking spaces in the city?
Second, it just seems too convenient, too perfect. Like everyone would know in advance whether they can park at destination. That's like really organised, but from gameplay perspective it feels mechanical.
So, what I propose is that this issue (#231) gets refactored in to a feature that lets user click on a building or road and say who can park there as per my comment above. The purpose being I want to increase likelihood that certain cims will be able to find parking, but I'm not guaranteeing that they find parking.
Roughly:
While debugging #218 I discovered that cars struggle to reach their precalculated parking spot. I think it would be good if cars can reserve parking spots such that other vehicles can't steal them until the first car finally approaches it.
