Vanilla traffic light is stupid on T junctions #544

Open kianzarrin opened 4 years ago

kianzarrin commented 4 years ago

Screenshot (3) In the picture above the traffic light has 2 phases. phase 1: the tree road and the basic road have green lights phase 2: the road with grass has green light. during phase 2 the road with trees should be able to turn right. there is nothing blocking it. Can we fix the functionality of the vanilla traffic lights?

Notes:

I vaguely remember that the vanilla traffic lights gets even more stupid if there is no straight segment.

I totally agree that default traffic lights should be more intelligent.

Turn on red feature can be applied to whole city via TM:PE mod options (Policies tab I think?), so does not need setting per junction in that scenario.

Also, what about vanilla traffic lights when there are roads with dedicated turning lanes?

No this is not what I am talking about. Turn on red is slower than genuine green light. Sorry if it is not clear I tried to make a video to explain what I am talking about but the game crashed for half an hour and I gave up.

What I mean is that if there are no cars coming from the other roads because they have red light, then turning right should have a green light.

Aren't you forgetting the pedestrian crossings? During phase 2, pedestrians can cross the road with the trees, so the default makes sense to me.

kianzarrin commented 4 years ago

@graup in a + junction vanilla traffic lights have 2 phases and cars always go over pedestrian crossings the road. so that is not a problem.

Sorry for the late response. I took me a while remember this.

@kianzarrin Ah, yeah, makes sense. I was thinking that if turning-right was green, pedestrians would be red. But of course, they can both be green.
