Active vs. All Recurring Contributions #2

I have installed this for two clients, and it seems as if the active recurring contribution search is bringing up cancelled contributions as well. At first I thought it had solely to do with the lack of an end date, but that wasn't it. What criteria are you using to determine if a recurring contribution is still active or not?

Actually, that's exactly what it is. The extension is using "end date" to define status, instead of the actual status field. What's the logic behind that? I won't go into detail here on why that's a problem for this client, and I understand that it probably isn't for most, but I am curious.
