Users need to authenticate themselves with Git at Google in order to run the following command in the documentation.

You don't need authentication to pull sources, this is only needed when you want to submit a CL.

Sorry for the late response, I was too lazy whoops. :feelsgood: Initially, when I ran the git ls-remote https://chromium.googlesource.com/a/chromiumos/manifest.git | grep release command, I had to authenticate myself with https://chromium.googlesource.com/new-password. So, I'm assuming that this happens to every user on first run. So I added the one step needed before running that command.
