[#SomeChanges Suggestion] - Rated PVP MMR Fix | +-500 MMR range to find opponents #1346

Since Battle for Azeroth, there was a MMR change to the game where you could only match with an opponent that was +- 500 MMR from your groups MMR.

This results in a big issue within the RBG community where there are times of the day that it's not possible to get a game because the group matchmaking rating is too high. If the group for example has a matchmaking rating of 2200 MMR, they can only be match with a team withing the 1700-2700 MMR range. If there are no teams within that range, the players will sit an infinite queue.

Example of long/infinite queue: https://gyazo.com/0201ce5a5a50baa9245c749f4491f7b3

VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2159843038

Suggestion: Remove MMR cap on finding opponents and make it so that the search range expands with 100 MMR every 3-5 minute.

Why would you get matched vs 2700 rated teams while being 1200? It does not make sense, no matter how long they sit in a queue, it should not happen to open a game like this. MMR ranges are needed to ensure people get matched evenly, to prevent people from playing off-hours and farming exclusively low rated teams to get games, the only benefit will be for boosters selling conquest cap wins to fresh characters with a mixed team composition consisting of some high and some low mmr players.

If there is nobody playing in a really unpopular bracket (rbg) come back another time, during primetime or wait a few days and maybe more people will start playing this bracket. However since people claim finding partners for 3vs3 is nearly impossible I doubt more people will go on a journey to find 9 other players just to play premade battlegrounds but I could be wrong. Time will tell.

Extending it to infinite MMR search parameters probably isn't good for the game but as the system is now, the search parameter is something like 20 MMR per minute in queue which makes queue times extremely long even if there are eligible teams in queue. This issue isn't just a problem for people playing when its not primetime, it becomes an issue for "really good" teams who dominate as well. The system punishes people for being good to some extent.

But what would be the expected benefit or positive outcome you want to achieve with this change? In theory winning vs a 1200 rated team while being 2300 rated will not give you any rating whatsoever, also I doubt the 1200 team would agree with you and would enjoy meeting an insanely higher team that just stomps them in 5 minutes. If you just want to play a game of battleground with your friends and you cannot get a rbg queue pop just play a Call to arms bg or something like that, same thing.

In no other bracket the highest rated teams should be dependent on facing 1200 rated teams, you just play a bracket nobody wants to engage with (yet?) considering it is week 1 of the arena season start.

Winning vs a 1200 rated team as 2300 rated would result in a +0, but still a game played and not just sitting in a endless queue. Getting 1200 rated teams isn't the point of this suggestion. It's to expand either the 500 MMR cap and/or increase the search rate of MMR from what it is now to more so you for example would get a 2k team after 2 min in queue instead of 10 min as a 2300 team. No point arguing the extremes that take a way from the main point of the issue.

Blizzard also removed the 2 incentives in cata to play rbgs: 1, weekly cap being static 4000 instead of rating based which made rbg the most attractive bracket for cap increase since it gave the most. 2, R14 replica gear that was locked behind 1800 rating in RBG, now doesnt require any rating (Even though the vendor isn't in).
