Description

Do melee weapons with extra frost damage affect Viscidus for the purpose of freezing it in Era? For reference, here are the list of weapons with extra frost damage:

Cobalt Crusher Cold Iron Pick Iceblade Hacker Warblade of Caer Darrow

As explained in Aggrend's July 2, 2020 post (https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/weapons-with-frost-damage-or-any-other-school-dont-work/569190/7) these weapons use frost damage for overcoming physical damage resistances (i.e. Blessing of Protection) then gets batched in with physical damage as a sort of physical frost damage. Despite this, these weapons did not affect Viscidus for the purpose of freezing it. Players later noticed that frost wands were also not affecting Viscidus. To clarify, frost wands also do a sort of physical frost damage that overcomes physical damage resistances (i.e. Blessing of Protection). As noted in Kaivax's August 5, 2020 update (https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/wow-classic-hotfixes-updated-november-16/361448) the game was patched so that frost wands could then work towards freezing Viscidus.

Due to the public nature of the July 2, 2020 post, no raid has seriously taken a second look to see if the aforementioned melee weapons would affect Viscidus even after the August 5, 2020 update. So it is unknown if melee weapons were also affected in the patch and would affect Viscidus as the damage from the above weapons and frost wands are effectively the same. A revisit of the issue would be appreciated as wowhead, the community, and official forums are in some confusion on this niche matter.
