Add the ability to create multiplexed clients.

Hi @bholbrook73. Thanks for submitting the issue. We don't have any multiplexed clients, so this is an issue we'd be less experienced in addressing and harder to prioritize. If you have thoughts on how to make this happen, happy to review a PR!
