I should have reviewed it sooner and be more careful: x.y.9z is a versioning scheme used by some projects (at least GNOME, at some point any way), to prepare for a new x.y+1 release (90 is alpha, 91 beta, 92+ RCs, usually)
Here, there are many changes in the build system, even dependencies changes (new xmlto dependency at least), and the need for intltoolize or gettextize for our use case (regeneration Autotools files)
