It's also a place where Rule of Fun is pretty popular. The Quest For 1,000 MPH was a major rallying point early on in DDA foruming, so I'm not hugely concerned that folks go at Ludicrous Speed.
Fuel is (and to some extent should be) superabundant, so conserving fuel presents no significant balance issues. What I would buy along the same lines is applying the aerodynamic friction coefficient of the vehicle exponentially with speed in order make acceleration and maintaining speed act more realistically. Appropriate streamlining measures to maintain a low coefficient would be welcome along with that adjustment.

Yeah, aerodynamics are a thing which we currently don't really track that well, so tough to tell what effects they should have.
Forex, the RaRa X is a lot smaller and flatter than a sedan, but you wouldn't know it from seeing the thing in-game.

This is a slightly bigger change, but perhaps it calls for an alternate set of aerodynamic parts? E.g. quarterpanels, perhaps boards. Doing some relevant calculations shouldn't be excruciatingly hard, but I'm not sure if such a change would be worth it.

I don't think so. Vehicles are sufficiently complicated without having to figure out how to represent to the player the aerodynamics of the lopsided, more-than-half-insane vehicle they just made.

Superseded by similar discussion with more details in #15839.
For example, the sports car can achieve over 600km/h as "safe speed", and if you really want to, you can go much, muuch higher than that. This is certainly not how vehicles are supposed to work. It's unrealistic and counterintuitive, and has impacts on balance -as far as I'm concerned, it means that the power/fuel usage grows linearly with speed, removing the need/ability to conserve fuel by driving at an optimal cruising speed. Speaking of optimal cruising speed, that's probably another addition that should be made, but that's topic for another issue.
