Cause you don't wanna cook with such a fine javelin and ruining the point of making it a fine pointed javelin. Javelins have thinner point than spears so the reason with being unable to cook with them.
I guess that would make sense, if it weren't for the fact that I just wrapped some washcloth around a stick, burned it a little, and spent 5 minutes with a pocket knife whittling.
@Stevensonz Fair reasoning, but checking the commit logs, in all honesty I believe it was an oversight.
@bastardghost The process of fire-hardening is a little different, and the fur is to weight one end for throwing.
Besides all of that, a quick [reality check] shows that roasting meat over a fire with a fire-hardened weapon wouldn't damage it.
Anyway, isn't it time we added rotisserie "spit-roasting" to Cataclysm? By simply applying a pocket knife to a heavy stick one could create two Y stands and use a pointy stick, spear or javelin as the skewer rod!
@Justice- Well, when I said 5 minutes, I was talking about the actual craft time. According to that video, perhaps that should be adjusted to 20-30 minutes. Perhaps that's a separate issue, though.
yea this is just an oversight

Wooden Javelins cannot be used to cook chunks of meat, nor plant marrow.
Considering all you do is harden the point, whittle it down a bit, and add a grip, I don't see why this shouldn't be possible.
