Some towed vehicles move in the wrong direction #46822

Open Cyprex opened 3 years ago

Describe the bug

Towed vehicle moves oddly, seems to move in the opposite direction as the towing video. See the videos. https://streamable.com/2yrh3q https://streamable.com/osh8l0

Steps To Reproduce

Not sure, in the video you see a heavily damaged flatbed truck, the front 1/3 is missing(was destroyed by repeated crashes). Towing vehicle is just a custom-made bike with a V12 Engine(see video). World save: Exprito_fixed_vehicle_towing_bug.zip

Expected behavior

Towing to behave more straightforward

Versions and configuration

Note that the world was created on b11350, this is b11360 Savefile is under Steps to reproduce.

I haven't had much luck using towing cables. In my experience the gap between the tower and the towed would get larger until the cable snapped or pulled off.

[EDIT] OK, had a look at your save file. Please put wheels on your piles of junk before trying to tow them, it makes me wince just to look at it. On a more serious note, I think it's just rattling around as it fails to move. Or maybe the friction is SO high the game gets confused and gives it negative velocity.

It pretty clearly seems to be moving in one direction, which is not the direction of the towing vehicle, nor the opposite. The whole point here is clearing the roads so auto-drive fails less. Repairing the vehicles(even just putting wheels on them) is a considerable effort considering the large number of vehicles in towns.

Please update title to better represent the issue. I suggest something like "Towing wrecked cars moves them in wrong direction"

Cyprex commented 3 years ago

I don't believe this is exclusive to wrecked vehicles, I've encountered similiar issues a number of times, I can't pinpoint a common theme right now but I'll pay more attention to it in the future and add further detail on when this happens.
