Documentation included with the game doesn't explain how monstergroups work #50545

Describe the bug

monstergroup

The attached snip shows all the documents coverage of "monstergroup" things that are not shown.

  1. What should monstergroup look like?
  2. Is there a soft cap for spawn counts that can prevent more monsters from being added to a monstergroup?
  3. What are the percentages for monstergroups?
  4. Can monstergroup spawns have nested monstergroups in them? Example : "monstergroup": "MONGROUP_FISH_OF_THE_SEA" has all saltwater fish in it and can be lightly sprinkled as rare spawns in "MON_RIVER" and "MON_LAKE"? I don't think it can be but I wouldn't know that from the documentation.

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Look for monstergroup explanations in the documentation.
  2. Despair.

Expected behavior

Maybe all my questions wouldn't be answered but I also likely wouldn't have had the realization that much of my understanding of mapgen is derived from cryptic conversations with deep code divers on discord. I mean religions have been started over less esoteric conversations.

In all seriousness our documentation people are often performing a thankless task that has allowed even first time modders like myself make valuable contributions to the game and I would fix this myself if I had more faith in the knowledge I have about how "monstergroup" works.
