Denim, lycra, synthetic fabric, and canvas patches can only be obtained from salvaging, many others are exceptionally rare to find #70349

Describe the bug

Denim, lycra, synthetic fabric, and canvas patches can only be gathered from ripping apart existing clothing. These patches should get at least some locations where they are spawned as loot. Quite a few types of sheets are also spawned pretty frequently except denim and maybe a few others, but denim mostly.

N/A trivially reproducible

Steps to reproduce

  1. Look for denim, lycra, synthetic fabric, or canvas patches on their own
  2. Can't find them despite them being widely available IRL, except probably lycra patches.

Expected behavior

The top 4 patches types should at least be spawned in general locations. Fur and felt could probably get an upgrade, but they aren't used much in-game, so their availability is probably fine. Leather and cotton are reasonably very available. Synthetic fabrics would probably be just behind leather in availability IRL, but it would be useless to make it excessively available since we have very little use cases for it in-game. I used hitchhikers guide to figure out their availability.

The general places these patches could be: the mall, mansion, craft shop, farm supply store, the tailor's basement in houses, clothing store etc.

Denim - salvage only, jeans are very common and patching them is commonplace, their patches should be distributed a bit more a general locations Lycra - salvage only, the patches probably wouldn't be available because they almost exclusively used without cuts, but lycra sheets should probably be available at general locations. Synthetic fabric - salvage only, mostly used for military clothing in-game. These could be at the general locations Canvas - salvage only, used in coats, duffel bags, utility vests, work shirts. These should be in at least general locations Fur - Decently available for the amount of salvage recipes Felt - Rarely available for the amount of salvage recipes Nomex - Extremely rare, but not in many recipes Leather - widely available Cotton - widely available

@CoroNaut: AFAIK that site is long out of date.

@Zireael07 doesn't that site pull directly from this GitHub? You can see yesterday's experimental at the bottom of the screenshot. Are you perhaps thinking of cdda-trunk.chezzo.com?

Zireael07 commented 10 months ago

Oh yeah - the two sites look extremely similar in UI and I didn't mouse over the link!

CoroNaut commented 10 months ago

If the wiki is still giving people problems, I'd suggest just taking it down. AFAIK all links to it have been removed and it seems completely abandonded by everyone including the people who put it up in the first place. No reason to keep a dead website alive to confuse people.

As confirmation, I used hitchhikers, you just gotta select the version at the bottom, it doesn't automatically get the latest.

Perhaps synthetic fabric could be made more abundant by adding synthetic bedsheets and/or curtains. Many modern bedsheets and curtains are made of polyester. In materials.json, synthetic fabric is defined as nylon, but polyester is a synthetic fabric with similar properties to nylon, so I don't think it would be unreasonable.

/confirm There is a couple of items that can be bashed apart to get these but they are overall shockingly rare.
