Note that zones out of range can quickly become so many the count becomes irrelevant. One reason is having multiple "bases" and another is having used zones to move loot in looting locations and then forgetting to get rid of them when done.
If you generally have trouble with sorting into your "fixed" zones they're probably too spread out. Given how the game works (as a basic restriction that's not easily changed) your zones ought to all be within reality bubble range of where you typically is sorting from (in my case parking areas for vehicles hauling the loot).

My loot sometimes will get sorted where I don't want it to go. This is because 1) zones are hidden if they're outside of the activity range and 2) whether the player can sort into those zones changes depending on their position while pathing to sort.

The zone manager UI should give better feedback on hidden zones. It would look something like this:
Describe alternatives you have considered.
Restricting whether you can sort into zones based on your starting position seems annoying, since it would effectively restrict sort range.
