Desk Fans and Space Coolers #74579

I was so excited when I found my first desk fan! I love how this game models everything so well. But when I set it on my desk and went to find a way to power it, I couldn't. Oh believe me, I tried every way possible before I looked it up---because it would be so cool to be able to power a desk fan!

I also progressed in electronics enough to be able to make space heaters, which is exciting. I love my portable space heater and I carry it around in winter. I'm sure it would be even cooler to be able to have a space cooler in the summer. Portable-sized swamp coolers are definitely a thing, though as a downside they have to be loaded with water, the colder the better.

Solution you would like.

Unless wind is already modeled, asking for a realistic desk fan is probably too much. I could see a desk fan making it "windy" in one tile it is pointing at, or simply re-creating a puff of mildly cool air on one tile every so often. That would be awesome!

As an aside, I have to say though, realistic fans or any wind-generating devices would multiply the strategic and cognitive depth of the game. I mean simulating wind as a vector field to blow air in the direction it is pointing. That sort of wind mechanic would reward clever use of gas attacks (such as blowing down a hall or into a house), and also allow another countermeasure to enemy gas attacks aside from the gas mask. Fires intensify, water evaporates, even tornadoes are possible (simply a circular vector field whose center moves about). Watching as a sheet of paper that blows down the street in the direction of the wind as you walk would---to me, at least---add real-life magic to this game. Though, I also understand that would involve adding another layer of data in the form of a vector field, and that the calculations involved in simulating wind might lag the game. But, could it be worth it?

Back to the main point---about cooling---I'd wager a space cooler would be rather easy to make, since the code for spreading cool air exists, and we have its cousin item, the space heater. And I'm sure that space coolers would become quite popular and well-deserved as a mid-game option for cooling.

Describe alternatives you have considered.

Gosh. Being able to pour water on myself? In real-life summer in Louisiana, I put ice in my hat, which actually works out pretty really well. I tailored it myself (this game inspired me to experiment). It's a tube of spandex-cotton loaded with about 0.5L of ice cubes at a time. The ice melts and the cotton-spandex wicks it away.

Additional context

My character walks around shirtless in cargo shorts all summer. He's a martial artist anyway, so that's okay---but, I really like role-playing as more of a engineering geek when I can, using a gadget I created to cool myself.

And if I had that working desk fan, you can sure bet I would be using it to blow insecticidal gas at those giant wasps. Though slaying them with Aikido is oddly satisfying, I would never dare do it in real life.

It's a good idea, if it can be realized, we can make an underground cold storage to preserve food, especially when I live in the wild!
