I am not a marshmellow! let me jump over small fires... #75160

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Fire should be dangerous, but sprinting through a newly lit fire made from lighting a stick on fire is essentially instant death. Small fires are essentially impassable and the rate at which the PC catches on fire from them is bizarre. This is important because of some starting scenarios, and some enemies/weapons can force a PC death by starting a fire in an entryway. The smallest possible fire as of right now seems to pretty much guarantee death for non-mutant characters.

Solution you would like.

Jumping in the game is handled by using 'e'xamine in certain scenarios, such as gaps between roofs. This might be applicable for jumping through flames as well. Fires already have a menu afaik, so adding the ability to jump through that space into the next one and take heat/fire damage proportional to the actual size of the flame, might be desirable. Jumping through a large fire should still be potentially deadly, but jumping over a campfire should be relatively easy and painless.

Describe alternatives you have considered.

Implementing jumping, which is not really a thing. Seems easy, but i guess it's a development can of worms? Yes, you can pour water to help put out fire, but just because there's one circumstantial way to something doesn't mean a reasonable and realistic option for navigating an obstacle should be ignored.

Fires actually don't have a menu, they can't be examined. You're probably thinking of the examine menu for the furniture you're containing a fire in. Fires are field effects, so that might make implementing this difficult.

Small fires being less deadly seems like a good idea.

This mechanic will be also useful to jump/go over little creatures, like frogs, birds, rats, little dogs, crawling zombies etc, because it hard to hit it, and one rat in a way can make you die because of coming hulk, I mention this idea in #68201

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, jack jump over the small fire/frog/bird/rat/small dog/cat/crawling zombie/oversized ant/skitterbot/evil multi-cooker/beaver/goat kid/small slime/landmine/bear trap/

Brown foxes should automatically use this ability to jump over dogs

But seriously though, this'd be a huge boon. Being able to jump over enemies & field effects would be great. For fires, perhaps we could give the player a "resistance" to fields when running.

Oh I do agree it'd be nice, though I've never personally been in the situation where I've been blocked by a small fire or animal. I also don't play A Really Bad Day, though
