Ideally I think it would work like any other object, getting clearer and clearer as you get closer, just getting better resolution from further away. It would become obvious if you're dealing with a radio tower or a mi-go tower from a much greater distance than it takes to figure out if you're looking at a gun store or a candy shop.
Also very wide structures. A mall, hospital, school, or mansion isn't going to be confused with a gas station or strip club.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The player can look up at the sky, but is oblivious to which direction the nearest radio tower is, as if the terrain can block line of sight on it.
Solution you would like.
Reveal very tall structures on the map at an extended distance, proportionate to how much map-vision would be multiplied if the player were standing on top of the structure. A nearby forest shouldn't block line of sight.
Describe alternatives you have considered.
