Is there a Clojure community in Maringá? If so, how might you let others in the community know that you intend to organize a workshop? If not, perhaps there are other groups in the area with similar goals (Rails Girls, PyLadies, or Women Who Code).

Do you want to run a workshop for women, or do you have another under-represented group in mind?

Definitely I am interested in organizing and teaching in the event.

There is no Clojure Bridge , and Since I made the Django Girls two years ago, I haven`t seen any other programming community. By the way, we made the first Django Girls event in Paraná State , in Brazil. http://www.djangogirls.org/maringa

I was planning to bring Rails Girls to our city , but for lack of time (usually sleeping at 4 am ) I haven`t been able to organize this one too, so I would focus on Clojure first and then other events(Rails Girls, and probably Arduladies, which is a movement from São Paulo, another city)

Do you know of any companies in Maringá using Clojure? These companies may be interested in sponsoring the workshop and/or providing a venue. Also, employees at these companies may be interested in volunteering.

I got in touch with a friend which is a professor on a near college called Faculdade Cidade Verde, and he lend us their Mac lab to host Django Girls. In that time, we didn`t look out for sponsors, only someone who could lends us a lab. And worked great,

Actually there is no one using Clojure in the moment because most tech companies are still using Delphi or Clipper. So events like DG, CB and RG are great to evangelize companies about new tech. I am studying Clojure as part of an ongoing project for myself.

We only had two voluntaries in that time of DG, because almost no one new about python or Django at time. So for CB, I am not expecting too much help too.

I've assigned myself to this issue, @ThePedroPaulino, to indicate that I'm happy to act as your mentor for the event. This simply means that I'll continue to be available to answer questions and provide suggestions as you organize your workshop. :)

It sounds as though your workshop will likely be smaller than workshops that have been held in cities in which Clojure is more established. This is not a problem, though! A smaller workshop may provide an even better learning environment for attendees.

Is it possible to use the Mac lab at Faculdade Cidade Verde again for this workshop?

Yes, it`ll be smaller since our city is not quite big yet (around 500 k inhabitants) and bring new IT tech is always a problem

I`ll get in touch with the professor responsible at Faculdade Cidade Verde , by the morning (since its still Sunday 8 Pm local time) and ask him to reserve the lab to us. Keep this issue open if possible and lets keep talking to organize as soon as possible.

Hello David! Feedback from the guys:

Our contact at Faculdade Cidade Verde will not be able to lend us a hand, BUT, I got a entire lab from another friend with at least 20 Windows machines. What do you think ? Maybe work with Docker or Vagrant to create a learning environment ?

For Django Girls did people bring their own laptops, use the computers in the lab, or a mixture of the two?

For Django Girls, I asked them to NOT bring their laptops, because we only had one day for the workshop., and if they brought their laptops, me and another volunteer would spend an entire day to setup the learning environment in each environment(I didn't use Docker at the time).

So within this scope, would be easier for them to already use the lab pcs while I can use only one setup for all of them.

This sounds like a good option, especially if you intend the ClojureBridge workshop to be a one-day event as well.

Yes, Ive been using Docker for a personal project(6 months) which Im am developing and working everyday on it. With Vagrant, just testing configurations to see how would work with php, on another project that I`m working on,

Docker sounds like a good fit. It's exciting to imagine the dockerfile you create being used for other workshops in the future as well.

Have you given any thought yet to the curriculum for your workshop? The choice of curriculum will likely affect the dependencies you'll need to install in the dockerfile.

Hello David, sorry for the late answer.

Yes, I took a read and consider half of the curriculum. And our partner manage to gave us a lab with 15 computers with whatever setup we need to run the workshop between the November 15th and November 27TH . So I was waiting for his reply to the lab. If you like you can already announce the event in Maringá. We are just setting the exact day, but the lab is already setup for us!

@localhostpedro, as you may be aware @laisoliveira is currently organizing a workshop in São Paulo. You may be interested in following #68 as some of the issues being discussed will be relevant to your Maringá workshop as well.

@davidchambers Talked with a partner at FAculdade Cidade Verde and he just agreed on the event: Their address is: http://presencial.fcv.edu.br/

We set up the date for February 24th, just after the Carnival , because no one will be here before that.

Since the setup is already done, I will begin working on spreading the word of the event and I`ll post the banner event here soon. You can already setup the date on the ClojureBridge website if you want.
