4:3 automatic aspect ratio in gba emulation problem #1486

i keep having this problem when i open up a gba game it keeps automatically going to the 4:3 aspect ratio, i find this really annoying, when i try to change it in the retroarch menu by pressing start and select and changing it in the display options it works at its 3:2 aspect ratio as god intended but when i go into the snes classic menu and try to load a save state from there it automatically resets to 4:3. i really want to get this to stop bc it really hinders my experience with the games i play
