SNES mini not recognized #1500

This might be something that's already solved but I can't find it anywhere. When I try to flash my kernel on my SNES mini nothing happens. I do what it says but the instructions just stays on my screen and nothing happens. It says:

  1. Remove the USB from your mini
  2. Turn the power switch to on
  3. While holding reset plug it back in to your computer
