That is how it is supposed to look. It always says "paired but not connected",
because there is no system driver that supports the controller.
After pairing, you should be able to go to the Bluez-IME settings menu and
activating it by following the three steps mentioned there.

it won't even power on now, it will charge but won't power on, not even the
indicator light. it has only been sitting at my desk for the last 48 hours

Check issue 116, the problem you are having is the same problem I've been
having on my Droid Bionic, I too bought a phonejoy and can't use it on any app
other than N64oid. Been hoping for a fix since so many people are having to
same problem, but dosen't seems like that's going to happen. :-(

The steps are:
0: Turn on Bluetooth
1: Select the device
2: Choose the IME
But you may hit issue #116 :(

i figured out the problem. the phone is connecting to the controller but
the emulator software isn't
