Play-list sorting when dragging multiple files #37

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
1. What steps will reproduce the problem?

Drag multiple files from the Finder into the play-list window.

2. What is the expected output?

The expected result would be to always add the files in alphabetical order
— for example, if i drag Episode 20.avi, Episode 21.avi, Episode 22.avi,
and Episode 23.avi into the window, they should appear in that order.

3. What do you see instead?

Movist adds the files in the order that you've selected them in the Finder.
For example, if i select a group of files from the bottom (which would be
23, 22, 21, then 20), it will appear in that order in the play list. Or if
i use open-apple+select to choose 22 then 21 then 20 then 23, it will
appear in that order.

3. What version of the product are you using?

Movist 0.6.1

4. On what operating system?

Mac OS X 10.5.7

5. Please provide any additional information below.

I think this was probably done intentionally, but it's still contrary to
what i expect — especially since i normally select from the bottom of the
window in the Finder instead of the top. If this behaviour remains i will
either have to completely change my file-selecting habits or i will have to
deal with Movist adding the files in reverse order every time.

Maybe a compromise would be best? You could include a check box in
Preferences to the effect of 'Always re-order files to alphabetical order'.

Movist has a feature I love:
play the episode you want to watch and movist automatically adds the rest, in
alphabetical order, to the playlist (if they are in the same folder).

This is very useful and removes the need for your feature, which either way
would be
useful only when watching sequential videos.

That's a great feature, but it's not equivalent, primarily because not
everything i
drag into the play list is a sequential television episode -- i only used that
as an
example since it's the easiest to understand. As a different example, suppose i
want
to watch 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later back-to-back; if i drag these into
Movist
using the method i normally use to select files (dragging from bottom), Movist
will
put these out of order. Also, Movist's automatic recognition of sequential
files does
not span folders, so if for example i keep my TV episodes separated into
folders by
series (which i do), Movist will order them like series 3 - series 2 - series 1
when
i drag them in.

Also, on a less selfish note i guess, although i personally use the feature
you're
talking about, i can see why others wouldn't. In their case this becomes an even
bigger issue than in mine.
