9 years ago I would think that calling and running meetings would fall to the captains, not the community manager ... not trying to be a jerk, but that's how most structured organizations I know work. Captains/Presidents/Leaders keep the whole group together and firing on all cylinders towards defined goals.

9 years ago Sure, I've been in organizations where the E/D, Captain etc... handled events, memberships, communications and facilitated meetings... But they weren't effective organizations... The whole reason CfA created new roles beyond that of Captain was to allow people to devote energy to activities they excel in. If I was any good at organizing/facilitating hangouts and maintaining social media we'd have had regular attendence for the past two years. Furthermore, in practical terms, as most of our members are based in Bangor, the facilitator will optimally come from that community as they would be more familiar with everybody. So that leaves the job to Garrett and he's going to be spending most of his time on the Open Data initiative I imagine.

9 years ago Also, Garrett seems to have gone AWOL for the past month or so. I'm sure he's got a lot on his plate, and CfM being a volunteer org is always going to suffer from things like that. It just kind seemed that if I took on the time of calling meetings and seeing agendas and defining girls for the group that that would be outside the score of a delivery lead.
In reality I suppose I solid just step up and get things five. I'm gonna purpose some hack nights on Meetup in Bangor in January and see if anyone bites. My PSV is to simultaneously have one computer dedicated to a hangout feed so fold can drop in virtually if they'd like.
Also, I'll take up the mantle of Hangout organizer. Watch the schedule!

Need volunteer to take charge of organizing bi-weekly Hangouts. BiWeekly Hangouts are intended to be in "show and tell" format allowing members throughout the state to share their activities and solicit suggestions. The organizer would facilitate the sessions and confirm attendence the day before the event. Ideally, the task would be part of the Community Managers' role, but can be rotating job until the CM job is filled. Hangouts Organizer can also work with future Storytellers to promote the regular sessions and schedule special events with guest speakers, live hackathons etc...
