Since we are considering what to do and how to run Code for PR effectively.

Our situation is quite different from other brigades. For one we don't operate at a city level for most of our projects.

As such the organizer's playbook might not apply but I think it can give us some great insights on how to manage an organization like this.

Brigade events

Hack nights

The whole concept of hack nights is to bring people together to work on projects. There are couple of things that stood out to me:

• Identify themes for hack nights and events
• Find sponsors for your events
• Create an online invite for your event
• Invite government and community partners to your hack nights and event
  • This would be interesting to think about how to make this happen.
  • I think the main problem would be who to invite. Is it worth going to state agencies? Is it worth going straight to cities and find out who to invite.
  • Potential cities could be Bayamon, Caguas, maybe Ponce or Mayagüez?
• Get logistics in place for your event, such as food, AV, etc.
  • This isn't needed for us. As a remote first brigade our issues are more around what video platform to use and how to manage costs for our attendees.

Key questions

• What is our plan for welcoming new people to our hack nights and events?
  • Being 100% remote can we use zoom and the new breakout rooms for this?
  • What would be the cost of something like that/
  • There are some platforms to manage virtual conferences, would they be a better option? If so how do we fund their use?
• How will the work continue from hack night to hack night or after the event/
  • I think the main problem here is how do we foster a remote async culture within Code for PR. I think training the project leads to make this happen is key.
  • At the same time this affects how we determine what type of projects are pitched and acknowledged during the hack night.
• What research can be done to prepare attendees for the event/
  • Would we have to have office hours to help inform people before events?
  • is it enough to have the repos and a website to help people navigate what needs to be done?
